“Embarrassing” – Sutton Believes Chelsea Have Got It All Wrong Over Teenager’s Game Time

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton believes the club have handled Callum Hudson-Odoi’s playing time this season poorly.

The TV pundit and newspaper columnist says the fact that the teenager has started for England before being given a fair chance in the Premier League doesn’t reflect well on the club:

“Chelsea may have turned down Bayern Munich’s offer in January but I don’t think we’ve heard the last of that. Hudson-Odoi just wants to play.”

“It is embarrassing for Chelsea that he can put on that kind of performance on the international stage without having started a game for his club.”

Hudson-Odoi is highly rated by Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, according to England manager Gareth Southgate, but the Italian has been reticent to start the winger regularly despite putting in impressive displays when called upon.

It has led to the situation whereby the 18-year-old is considering leaving the club. The Blues are reportedly prepared to offer the player £100,000 a week to remain at Stamford Bridge but, as things stand, they could lose him for a nominal fee next summer when his contract expires.

The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in the player, in addition to Bayern.

Supporters will be hoping that Sarri begins to select Hudson-Odoi more regularly between now and the end of the season, especially after he showed what he could do whilst away on international duty.
