El Nino Returns?

El Nino Returns?

Torres arrived at Liverpool and quickly took to the English game with relative ease. Within his first season, he started being reckoned as one of the most fearsome strikers in the country, and perhaps even in the continent. He then moved to Chelsea, and it all started going south for him since the record breaking £50 million move in 2011.

He has struggled ever since joining the Blues as he failed to reproduce his lethal form in front of goal. The media have not made it any easier for the 29-year old, who has been at the receiving end of severe criticism and mockery for over 2 years now.

However, things are now finally looking up for him, as he started to find his feet in the closing stages of last season. He scored a flurry of goals which saw him end up as Chelsea’s leading goal scorer last campaign. He has carried his fine end-of-season form into the ongoing Confederations Cup, and he was right on the mark yet again last night for Spain, as Metro reports that they ran riot against a hapless Tahiti team, who were outclassed 10-0 by the reigning World and European champions.

Torres was on song as he scored 4 goals and provided one assist for David Silva, who scored a brace himself. Barcelona’s David Villa scored a hat-trick along with one goal for Torres’ Chelsea team-mate Juan Mata. Torres was certainly the man of the match and could have added to his four goals, as his penalty brushed off the cross bar.

With Torres now managing to show us glimpses of his Liverpool days, the question is that will he manage to sustain this level of performance and take it into next season? With incoming manager Jose Mourinho looking at striking replacements, will Torres be able to make Mourinho reconsider his decision of buying another attacker and maybe put his faith in the Spaniard instead? Do you see Torres’ current form being the savior of his Chelsea career?
