Chelsea have not been regarded as a team playing the prettiest of football in Europe. That tag has always rested with the likes of Barcelona, and then with Arsenal domestically. This beautiful style of football has garnered a huge number of lovers in recent times who are fascinated with the way these teams pass the ball around and make it look picturesque.

On the other hand, Chelsea were previously more known to emphasize on getting the right results primarily, and then giving second preference to their style of play. That trend is gradually changing in the last two years as Chelsea have purchased players like Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar who are in the mould of players at Barcelona and Arsenal. The trio have been producing some eye-catching plays and link-ups between them, which have done enough to suggest that Chelsea are finally implementing beautiful football.

Daily Mail now reports that Mourinho was asked about Chelsea’s approach for the upcoming season and whether he was asked by owner Abramovich to stick to a certain style of play to which he replied, “The owner never spoke to me about this. The owner always spoke to me on the same lines that I am saying: we want to play well, we want to play good football, we want to win matches, we want to play every match to win, we want to be considered an attacking team.”

“So we have to play with the qualities of the players but our philosophy is very very clear. We don’t want to go to a stadium and be defensive for 89 minutes and wait for a chance and then score a goal and win 1-0 and go home happy. That is not our philosophy. Our philosophy is to try to be dominant every game knowing that when we play against good teams, we have to defend.”
