‘Dodged Bullet’ ‘Thank God It Didn’t Happen’ Chelsea Fans Relieved As Romano Reveals Club Came Close To Signing Bosnian

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wanted to swap Jorginho for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic before the Bosnian playmaker eventually decided to make the move to Barcelona, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist reported back in May that Juve had tabled the proposal to the Blues, and it appears Lampard was interested in making it happen but Pjanic already had his heart set on a switch to Spain. Supporters on Twitter are quite relieved that the deal didn’t materialise:

Pjanic is undoubtedly a very good player, but he’s hardly much of an upgrade on Jorginho. The Bosnian international is two years older than the Chelsea midfielder and he is not known to offer much in terms of goals.

It must be said he does generally provide a decent number of assists and that may be why Lampard considered swapping the two players but, other than that, the Blues would not have got the better end of the deal.
