‘Didier Drogba-esque’ Ferdinand Lavishes Praise On Chelsea Ace After Lille Performance

Rio Ferdinand believes Tammy Abraham is making excellent progress on his game after his performance against Lille on Wednesday night.

The TV pundit has not been a big fan of the Chelsea no.9’s hold up play so far this season, but he said he saw a different side of him during the 2-1 win, saying there were shades of Didier Drogba:

“I saw elements in Tammy’s game today that I hadn’t seen as much that I’d have liked to. His hold-up play, coming to the ball and bringing others into play.”

“First half, one ball went up to him, Didier Drogba-esque, chests it down for someone, runs on for the next phase – I think he’s developing nicely. He’s scoring goals, he’s scoring different types of goals and I think he’s a threat”

That’s high praise indeed, and it will be interesting to see whether Abraham can consistently throw his weight around up front and use his strength to his advantage.

Despite being 6ft 3, the striker does not have a particularly good success percentage with aerial duels, but at 21 years of age, he still has time on his side to improve his all-round game.

Considering he has already scored eight goals in ten games this campaign, any further improvements would make him a force to be reckoned with at the highest level.
