Cut Price Kießling Might Be Chelsea's Next Top ScorerIt appears that Chelsea may have a great opportunity to sign Stefan Kießling, a 29 year old German international who has been playing in the Bundesliga for his entire career. He is currently with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and quite impressively has managed more than 100 goals in 281 matches in his career split between Leverkusen and FC Nuremberg. The Blues see Kießling as a great alternative to Torres and Demba Ba, as far as playing style goes. Leverkusen’s striker is 6’3’’ and is a genuine aerial threat something which could really improve Chelsea’s options in the striking department.

The origin of this potential transfer comes from the German striker rather than Chelsea but it could be a good opportunity to take, considering Torres’s inefficiency and the fact that Stefan Kießling will cost the Blues just £6 million. The German is not dead set on Chelsea as a destination if we keep in mind that Leverkusen’s player wanted to join West Ham this past January. According to his statements he has no definite destination in mind, his wish is simply to play in the Premier League.

Stefan Kießling’s agent also says that his client is interested in entertaining offers as soon as possible and that his 10 year Bundesliga experience will surely end over the summer. The German is looking for a new challenge and Leverkusen are understood to be ok about letting him go since they have a new direction in mind for next season. The only problem with Stefan Kießling’s may be age related. There have been signs that Chelsea are following a policy of only signing youngish players. They have invested a lot of money in young talented players and it seems that their transfer policy should pay off. Hazard and Oscar are two of the best examples to give. The two youngsters have pushed players such as Essien and Malouda to go out on loan or even lose their place on the bench.

There is a slight possibility that Stefan Kießling will not end up playing in the Premier League, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly interested in finding a replacement for Polish star Robert Lewandowski, who is 99% sure to be gone after this season. Dynamo Kiev are also interested in signing Kießling but the Ukrainian side is seen as a last resort for him as the German striker really does want to come to the Barclays Premier League.
