Courtois To Face A Difficult Decision Regarding His Future

The Blues missed out on one of their biggest transfers yet during the summer when Falcao left Madrid to join Spanish side Monaco. Back then there was much speculation which referred to a complex deal between Atletico and Chelsea who looked keen on using Courtois as leverage in order to sign the Colombian striker.

According to the Daily Mail a similar scenario might unfold during the next transfer period. This time, Mourinho’s main target is the Brazilian born Spanish international, Diego Costa. The 25 year old could be part of a transfer which might include Thibaut Courtois. The 21 year old goalkeeper is under contract with the Blues until 2016 which means negotiations might well take place at the end of this season.

Courtois who is currently valued at £35 million might not want to extend his agreement with the Stamford Bridge side after he repeatedly expressed his fondness for Spanish football. The Belgian international has been on loan with Atletico since 2011 and has already moved there with his entire family. Returning to England might be a problem which could mean Chelsea will miss out on Diego Costa.

Rumors have it though that the Blues will no longer let Courtois leave on loan next year if he refuses to sign a new contract. Despite being in desperate need of a striker, the Stamford Bridge club considers the Belgian too valuable to lose especially at such a young age. Even if Cech has a few good years ahead of him, having a goalkeeper like Courtois is always great. Mourinho will probably try signing Costa by using the 21 year old stopper’s future loan as leverage.
