Courtois joins Hazard with Blues exit hint

Chelsea’s summer transfer window has not been their best by any stretch of the imagination, and it looks as if things are only set to get much worse, as two of their most coveted stars have hinted at exiting the club.

The Blues announced manager Maurizio Sarri would take over last week, and confirmed their first signing of the summer in Italian midfielder Jorginho, but that positivity has been quashed with the news that their Belgian duo seek the exit door.

Eden Hazard shocked the world when he confirmed almost immediately after Saturday’s World Cup third-place play off victory over England that he wants to quit the club this summer, giving Real Madrid a ‘come and get me’ hint as he broke the news.

And things have gone from bad to worse, as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has echoed his teammate’s cries to leave by warning he could let his Chelsea contract run out.

Courtois has admitted he would be keen on staying at Stamford Bride beyond the summer, but warned the new contract offered by the Blues is not enough based on his World Cup performances – which earned him the Golden Glove award.

“I will be coming back, for sure, and I will see what they want and how they say it,” he said.

“Obviously with this World Cup, I think what was on the table obviously is different than what I can have, maybe.

“In this World Cup, I have ignored all the speculation, all the rumours.

“But now in the next few days I will have a chat with my agent and see what Chelsea told him, and then we will talk. But I feel happy at Chelsea, it’s not that I necessarily want to leave.”

Courtois then hinted he could be open to allowing his contract to run down, saying that honouring his deal and staying for an extra year could be on the cards.

“People always complain that players don’t comply with their contracts, but maybe they do.

“I don’t think they will keep someone with my qualities on the bench, even if I don’t sign (a new contract). But maybe (staying) is possible, because I like it in London.”
