Courtois Believes In Chelsea’s Youth Policy

Thibaut Courtois has praised the youth policy of Chelsea, and has said that he fully trusts and appreciates the focus of the club on its future and young players like himself, who ultimately aim at becoming legends at the historic club.

The Blues have regular Czech Republic keeper Petr Cech, who has been a loyal servant for the club, having played 291 Barclays Premier League matches since signing from Rennes in 2004. Cech has been renowned as one of the best goalkeepers in the world throughout his stint at Stamford Bridge, and at the age of 30, he has a minimum of two years left in his prime form.

Courtois was signed by Chelsea from Racing Genk in 2011, when the club won the race when many others were interested in the young keeper’s talent. He was signed by the club as a future replacement for Cech, and hence to give him appropriate experience, loaned him to Atletico, where he has gained a reputation as a prolific shot-stopper.

In March 2013, Courtois set a club record of 820 minutes without conceding a goal, a terrific feat for a 21-year old goalkeeper. The Belgian has seen managers change since 2011, and still feels that moving back to Chelsea will not serve the purpose of furthering his career in the best way.

Courtois once again impressed the media, fans and experts when he bravely defended his side in a 1-2 win in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. His saves were primarily the reason why Real did not score more goals, and surely the board at Chelsea did notice the same.

The young keeper was rumored to be unhappy with Jose Mourinho potentially coming to Chelsea, due to the fact that Mourinho was the one who introduced Cech to the Bridge, and is a fan of the keeper.

According to Sky Sports, Courtois said, “Chelsea have the young players that maybe in two or three years’ time can win everything.”

“I signed with Chelsea, not just because it is a big club but also because of its commitment to young players. I want to be part of Chelsea history.”

“Chelsea have always been very fair with me and they are also smart people and they know that I need to play.”

“I don’t know where that will be but I do know I have proved myself in the two years I have been here (in Madrid).”

Seemingly it is unlikely that Courtois would be happy if he returned to the Bridge with Petr Cech currently ensconced as the club’s number one so it is hard to see him playing for Chelsea in the next few seasons even if he does agree with Chelsea’s youth policy.
