Could Gooners Forgive Ashley Cole?

Ashley Cole has fallen out of favour with Chelsea’s starting line-up despite his commitment to ending his career at Stamford Bridge. His current situation does not look very promising and a move during the winter transfer period is more and more probable. With World Cup prospects barely intact for the 33 year old, Arsenal could offer him a ticket to Brazil, despite leaving the Gunners 7 years ago to join the Blues.

According to Metro, Cole is one of the most despised players ever to perform for the Emirates team. He left in 2006 after being offered a better contract by Chelsea. Since then he has won 9 serious trophies, which would not have happened if he stayed with Wenger’s side. Even so, recent events point to the fact that the left-back could return to North London.

In recent statements Wenger also hinted towards the fact that Cole would be a great addition to the team. The Frenchman looks keen on bringing the 33 year old defender back in what could be a productive deal for both sides. The English international has a lot of experience which he could easily share with players like Gibbs who need some guidance. He also looks pretty interested in making it to the World Cup which means he will give it his best during the last part of the season. With Cole’s relationship with Mourinho reaching an all-time low and with money no longer being an issue, could the left-back just be the next Sol Campbell?
