Could Chelsea Really Sell Oscar?

It looks like most of the business Chelsea will be doing this summer will be strongly linked to Serie A. Conte who will take over starting June, has strong connections to Italian football and most importantly, has a great knowledge regarding most of the players currently rumored to be looking for a change in scenery. Since the Squadra Azzurra boss has been announced at Stamford Bridge, transfer rumors have been flooding the internet. One rumor has been looming around London even since Mourinho was in charge. Oscar to Juventus was in the spotlight for several months and now, according to Metro, it is once again one of the most popular stories. True or not, what good may come of such a transfer? How can selling the Brazilian improve the way Chelsea are performing?

First there’s the salary. Oscar is one of the highest paid players in the lot. At £90,000-per-week, he could allow the Blues to increase the pay for the likes of Willian who, for what he did this season, is definitely underpaid. Also this kind of money could be redirected towards someone like Aubameyang or to Hummels who are rumored to be on the move. Even if Oscar’s salary might not be enough, you can also add Falcao’s £140,000 and Remy’s £85,000 and Chelsea could easily pay whatever striker they want without feeling a dent in the budget.

Secondly there’s the fact that Cuadrado should be brought back to Chelsea, and will probably be repatriated after a great season for Juventus. If that happens, what would be the point of having Hazard, Pedro, Willian and Cuadrado. At least one of them will be on the bench and honestly, the way things are going right now, it will be either the Belgium international or Oscar. Given the fact that Hazard should be the star of the team, could Oscar be spending a lot of time on the bench.

Last but not least, and if Chelsea do really want to part company with the Brazilian playmaker then the most useful way to handle the situation might be to use him as a trading piece. Who could Chelsea trade him for? Zaza, Morata, Pogba (even though he is unlikely to leave), Rugani or Bonnuci. All these players could be a lot more useful to Conte than Oscar is right now for the Club. It will not only fill in some gaps but it will also help with the FIFA spending targets.

However, Oscar likely stays as he has had a rough season like many Blues but he has shown in the past that he is a sublime talent and it is unlikely you could buy a Premier League experienced player of the same calibre very easily.
