Costa In For Tough Competition Next Season

Even though with Traore in good shape and with Remy putting up excellent goal to minute ratios, Chelsea still need someone else to deliver upfront. Pato may still have a small chance as a Blue but sadly Falcao is a failed attempt when it comes to improving the goal rate and it is hard to believe he will stick around after Conte takes over. The Blues will only have Costa as their main striker which is not an easy way to win competitions as it places too heavy of a workload on the striker. The Spaniard may be good but he will surely cave under the pressure of playing every three days.  And aside from that there are the injuries and the suspensions which he is very unlikely to get given his playing style.

With that in mind here are two options Conte will probably consider for next season. Both come from Juventus and both are young and promising. The first choice is Alvaro Morata. The former Real Madrid striker who failed to impress this season, could be eager to work with Conte and possibly reboot his career. He is young, determined and very experienced. He has the physique for the Premier League and the aggressive playing style needed to make it in the UK. The problem is that I`m not seeing how he could take over from Costa or pose a serious threat for the Spaniard. Morata seems more of a second option – that kind of player you throw in when you need a strong, tall attacker to get a late equalizer or winner. He might not agree to that situation – this is the reason he left Real and now is considering leaving Juventus.

The second option for Conte is 24-year-old Simone Zaza. According to the Metro, Conte wants to work with the Italian international whose talent is not fully exploited in Serie A. The striker is now a third option but would deserve much more. To be fair, he will not be coming to Stamford Bridge as a first pick but at least his chances of getting more playing time will increase with Conte. The two could easily end up playing for Chelsea as the Blues have several key trading coins. Massive changes will take place this summer and swaps may be the key to bring in whomever Conte wants. Recently the press speculated that Ivanovic is going to leave. Including him in a swap could turn to be productive as it is known that Italians tend to use older players or players who are over 30 years of age. Still it is hard to believe the Blues would allow their Serbian warrior “Ivo” to leave when he has displayed such good form since coming back from injury.
