Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has spoken out after he failed to shake United boss Jose Mourinho’s hand on Sunday following his side’s 1-0 victory over the Red Devils.

Conte insists that respect ‘outside the pitch’ is not important, and further showed his dislike toward the former Chelsea manager.

After the game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Mourinho appeared to wait for Conte at the tunnel in order to shake his hand, but Conte instead chose to walk out onto the pitch and celebrate his side’s victory.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho said: “He disappeared. So I shook with his assistants which for me is basically the same.”

But when Conte was asked about the situation, he said: “It’s not important. It’s important to win the game.

“You have to have the respect on the pitch not outside the pitch.”

Both Conte and Mourinho have certainly had their fair share of disagreements over the past 15 months or so, and this latest exchange between the two will only increase the tension for when the sides next meet.

The win for Chelsea means they are now just 4 points behind United, and have moved back into the top four.
