Conte Determined To Sign Right-Back To Compete With Victor Moses – Sagna, Rafinha and Zappacosta linked

Chelsea have missed out on Oxlade-Chamberlain who was spotted wearing the Liverpool last night after his medical. He seemed like a solid solution for the 3-5-2 formation that helped Conte win the title.

Even if Victor Moses is more than efficient, he can leave a massive gap in the whole Chelsea set-up if injury hits him. With that in mind, one might understand why the Blues’ boss is looking for a right-back as his last signing of the summer.

There are two players who Conte is considering at this point in time, both with enough experience and skill to fill in for Moses at any given time or even help if the formation changes to a 4 at the back line-up. Not sure if anyone noticed but right now, Azpilicueta is the only genuine right-back. According to the Daily Express, the gap could be filled in by one of two players.

The first on this late transfer list is Bayern’s Rafinha. The Brazilian who strangely was left on the bench by Kimmich last weekend, is closing in on his last 6 months of contract. Chelsea could take advantage of that situation and offer Bayern some cash for the 31-year-old who would leave a free agent in June 2018.

There is no concrete info regarding how much he would cost but apparently, he is valued at just under £10m which is more than decent especially with Chelsea spending more this summer than they made on selling players.

The second player on the list is Premier League veteran and former Arsenal and Manchester City player Bacary Sagna who was rumoured to be considering retirement after his contract with City expired. Sagna is now 34 but has played for 10 years in the Premier League. He would be a bit of a gamble even though he would be a free agent-signing. Why not go for someone like Cedric Soares instead or even 26-year-old Brazilian Mário Figueira Fernandes from CSKA Moscow who by the way is very similar to Alonso. It remains to be seen who will get to Stamford Bridge by the end of the day. Hopefully he will be just as good as of investment as Morata appears to be.

UPDATE: It would seem that Chelsea are headed in a different direction as numerous sources like Sky Sports News and Metro are reporting that Chelsea have tabled a £23 million deal to sign Davide Zappacosta from Italian side Torino. This is possibly down to Antonio Conte’s knowledge of his home country and the fact that the former national team coach is familiar with the 25-year-old Zappacosta who is a full Italian international.
