Conte admits squad rotation as Musonda looks set for a chance

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says he will rotate his squad against Qarabag in the Champions League this week, saying that changes within the team are a must when playing in a European competition.

Conte doesn’t necessarily have the biggest squad available for him to rotate, but the Italian will hope that the players he drafts into the side do the business.

“You are never relaxed in England because you have to play a tough league and also FA Cup and also Carabao Cup,” said Conte.

“Now we are starting to play the Champions League. To play 60, 65 games it’s normal but it’s not easy.”

“In my past sometimes before a Champions League game you rested. In England it’s not easy to do this. When you make the decision [on selection] there is always the risk.”

“The risk could be to play with the same players as against Leicester and then after the game: “Why didn’t you change the team that was tired?”

“You know very well if you win you’ve made the best decision, if you lose you’ve made the worst decision.”

Charly Musonda could be set to start against Qarabag.

The 20-year-old is one of the highest rated youth players at the club, despite only making two substitute appearances for Chelsea.

Many have called for the Belgian to be given more opportunities at Stamford Bridge following a successful loan spell at Real Betis, and with Antonio Conte confirming that he will be rotating the squad, perhaps it is time to see the wonderkid shine.

Musonda left further hints on Instagram, suggesting that he will start at Stamford Bridge.

“Five years in the making, It’s almost time to make waves in this special kit,” he said via his Instagram page.
