CONFIRMED: Chelsea Star Leaves For Rival In £8m Deal

Chelsea defender David Luiz has signed for Arsenal, both clubs have confirmed. The 32-year-old has joined the Gunners for a fee reported to be in the region of £8m.

The Brazilian international departs Stamford Bridge for the second time, having joined the Blues from PSG for his second spell back in 2016.

Luiz was an integral first-team player for Maurizio Sarri last season and he signed a new two-year contract back in May.

However, the arrival of Frank Lampard as manager has changed the Brazilian’s role at the club. He did not start Chelsea’s last pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach, suggesting he would not be in the first eleven for the opening game of the season against Manchester United.

Luiz’s future was then placed in serious doubt when Lampard decided to omit him from first-team training yesterday, and a move away from the Blues looked to be inevitable.

His departure for a fierce rival is controversial, though, and has not gone down well with Chelsea fans.
