Complexity In Falcao’s Clause To Benefit Chelsea?

Without question, Falcao is one of the best strikers playing in Europe in these days. He has single-handedly dragged Athletico to an impressive 2nd spot in the league table, and into the final of the Copa del Rey. The Columbian joined the Spanish outfit at the start last season, and has already scored a massive 63 goals for them.

A striker of such goal scoring pedigree would undoubtedly attract a dearth of clubs, however his massive price tag will ensure that the list is trimmed down to just 3-4 interested suitors, who have the money available to land Falcao. It seems like the richest of the clubs will be vying for his services. Chelsea and Real Madrid are the frontrunners for his signature. Apart from them, Manchester City and even Paris Saint-Germain too have been loosely linked with him.

Chelsea are desperate to bring Falcao to Stamford Bridge next season, as they have somewhat given up hope on £50 million flop Fernando Torres. They are keen to land a free-scoring center forward to help challenge for titles next season, and owner Roman Abramovich has earmarked the 26-year old Falcao as the one he would like to buy.

Athletico’s fierce cross-town rivals, Real Madrid, too are looking to upset their neighbors by snatching their star player from them. They are planning to bring a new striker in the summer, with reports suggesting that they might be ready to listen to offers for Argentine international Gonzalo Higuain, and possibly replacing him by signing Falcao.

However, Athletico have taken some remedial measures in advance, as even though they are resolved to lose Falcao in the summer, they want to make sure that he does not join their fierce rivals. Therefore, it has been reported by AS that there is a certain clause inserted in Falcao’s contract which states that Real Madrid personally will have to pay a massive £65 million to land him. As for Chelsea, it is £13 million lesser than that.

Will the massive valuation put off Real Madrid? If yes, will Chelsea be the ultimate benefactor of this clause?
