Cole Wants To Extend Chelsea Stay

According to ESPN, Chelsea full back Ashley Cole has vowed to continue his career at Stamford Bridge after admitting that he may have to call it a day on his playing days at some point soon down the line, but would be pleased to extend his stay at the club for another season.

Jose Mourinho’s return to the club was a delight not just for the new bunch of players, but also for the ones like Cole, who were present during Mourinho’s first spell at the club. That spell will be remembered as one of the most successful times in the club’s history, as Chelsea won consecutive Barclays Premier League crowns for the first time since the inception of the elite league in the 90s. Other players from that spell include the likes of John Terry, who still leads the side, even though his international career took an unfortunate turn due to controversy. Frank Lampard, who has been one of Mourinho’s favorite players from around all the teams managed by the Portuguese around the world, is still scoring goals on a regular basis, and achieved a commendable personal milestone when he became Chelsea’s all-time leading goal scorer last season. While Cole and Terry assure defensive strength, and Lampard in the midfield, Mourinho is desperately feeling the absence of Didier Drogba, who now plies his trade in the Turkish league. Fernando Torres was bought by Roman Abramovich at a £50 million price tag to replace Drogba, but the Spaniard has been disappointing throughout his spell at the club. The former Liverpool star is regaining some of the form that made him one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League, but is yet not scoring on a consistent basis.

Cole, at 32, has played the majority of his career at Arsenal and Chelsea, and has been evergreen on the international front, representing England regularly. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has iterated that he was eager to sign an extension for another season at the club.

Cole said, “I signed an extension at the start of the year and so have this year left and it will be up at the end of the season,

“I hope to stay for longer. I have had a great time here, a great career here and, of course, I’d love to stay if they still want me.”
