Club President Reveals Future of Chelsea Target To Be Settled By ‘End Of The Year’

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has given Nabil Fekir until the end of the year to sign a new contract with the French club.

The attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in recent months, but despite being very close to a move to the Reds in June, he remained a Lyon player.

Fekir’s current deal with the Ligue One side expires in 2020 but Aulas wants his future resolved sooner rather than later:

“For the moment, we have not really had a real discussion, even if we met three weeks ago. The sorting out of various things concerning who the agent is, is ongoing. The aim is to have a clear and precise position from his point of view between now and the end of the year.”

Reports in France suggest that Aulas would prefer Fekir to sign a new a contract in order to increase his value, and he could then be sold close to the fee agreed with Liverpool (£52.8m) to another club next summer.

The 25-year-old has been in and out of the Lyon side this season, having started just eight of the French team’s 16 league matches.

In all competitions, Fekir has made 14 appearances this campaign, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
