Club President Confirms He’s Targeting Summer Deal For Chelsea Frontman

Nice president Gauthier Ganaye has said he is interested in signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud in the summer.

The Frenchman’s contract runs out at the end of the season, but Maurizio Sarri has said he has asked the club to trigger a one-year extension.

However, Ganaye says he would be open to signing Giroud despite being aware of how difficult it could be to secure his signature:

“He is at the end of his contract, he still performs well at his age. Come on, let’s tell you it’s possible. His salary? Yeah, it’s really expensive.”

Giroud has made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this campaign, having started 18 games and scored 12 goals in all competitions.

Despite the amount of game time he has been afforded this season, though, the former Arsenal forward has repeatedly expressed his desire for a more important role.

Giroud’s 10 goals in 11 Europa League games have not been enough for him to get a place in the first team for Premier League fixtures.

The 32-year-old has only started seven matches in the league, with both Alvaro Morata and subsequently Gonzalo Higuain having been regularly chosen ahead of him.
