Club President Breaks Silence On Chelsea Target’s Future As He Confirms He’s Received A “Number Of Offers”

Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed that they have received a number of proposals for defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton are said to be interested in the Brazilian, and while Lopez would not give away the names of the clubs’ who have tabled formal offers, he did say that one team, in particular, is leading the race for the defender’s signature:

“It’s true that he would like to go and try something else out. We haven’t taken that decision yet, but he’s received a number of offers. I feel he’s closer to one club than others, but nothing’s done yet so we’ll see.”

Lopez was, however, adamant that no formal decision has been made on Magalhaes’ future despite the strong interest being shown in him:

“He’s been linked to two clubs in the UK and he’s clearly been linked to other clubs that have either enquired or moved forward with proposals for him. But we’re not in a hurry and we’re not playing right now. The player isn’t on the pitch.”

There were reports last month that the Blues and Everton had made €35m bids for the centre-back, although, with doubts over when the transfer window will be reopened, Lopez is correct to point out that there is no rush to accept any proposals.

Chelsea’s interest in Magalhaes is likely due to his young age (22) and the fact he is left-footed. All of manager Frank Lampard’s current centre-halves are stronger on the right-hand side.
