Club ‘Bewildered’ And ‘Disappointed’ By Claims Chelsea Have Tabled £40m Bid For Defender

Brighton have had no contact from Chelsea regarding a bid for captain Lewis Dunk, according to the Argus. The local newspaper claims the Seagulls are “bewildered” and “disappointed” by reports that the Blues were closing in on a deal to sign the 28-year-old.

Both Frank Lampard’s side and Tottenham have been linked with the England international in recent days, with £40m offers being planned by the two teams.

However, as things stand, it appears that no official move for Dunk has been made by Chelsea yet, and it remains to be seen whether they will make a formal approach in the coming weeks.

It’s likely that director Marina Gronovskaia is focusing on one transfer at a time, and it looks as though their attempts to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz have taken precedence. With the transfer window closing at the beginning of October, there is no rush to get signings in, although Lampard would no doubt prefer to have his squad in place for the first game on September 12th.
