The former Chelsea midfielder surprisingly signed a short term deal with Premier League champions Manchester City prior to the start of the season. He had agreed to sign for MLS side New York City, whose season will start in January, but Lampard also agreed a six month loan deal with City, whose owners also own the MLS outfit.

Lampard, who has already scored 4 goals for the Citizens, has a loan deal with City until January 7 and his early season form  has resulted in the Manchester club looking to extend the former England international’s spell at the club.

The 36-year-old Lampard has already signed the extension with City until the end of the season, according to the Express. The report suggests that key midfielder Yaya Toure’s participation in the African Cup of Nations has influenced Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to offer Lampard an extension which will see him pocket a cool £190,000-a-week.
