Chris Sutton Predicts The Result As Chelsea Take On Liverpool In The Carabao Cup Final

Ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton is expecting his former club to lose the Carabao Cup final this weekend.

The BBC pundit says he has gone back and forth on his prediction but he is still “not convinced” about the Blues despite their recent form, and he is backing Liverpool to lift the first trophy of the season at Wembley:

“Liverpool were woeful in the first half against Luton on Wednesday, then wonderful after the break. We will have to wait and see which Liverpool turn up, but the same can obviously be said about Chelsea.”

“So, the question is whether I am going to end up being hoodwinked by that display against City, or whether the tide really is about to turn for Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.”

“I am not convinced that the latter is the case. As I said at the very start, I was tempted to go with Chelsea… but I have talked myself out of it.”

Sutton has gone with a 2-1 win to Liverpool after extra-time so he does think it will be a tight affair even if Mauricio Pochettino’s side end up on the losing side.

Chelsea have improved a lot in recent weeks

While Sutton is sceptical about the Blues’ recent improvement, he cannot deny that they have put in some much better displays over the past few weeks.

Pochettino’s men were outstanding against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and, while they didn’t start too well against Crystal Palace, they did look impressive when they mounted a comeback in the second half. They also took a deserved point off City.

Liverpool’s injury crisis could sway the result

Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai will all face late fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s game.

If the trio don’t make the matchday squad, it would even the odds and give Chelsea a much better chance of winning the game.
