Chelsea’s TOP FIVE Best Performing Players For the 2021/22 Season

While things may have not gone to plan in the Premier League this season, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel won’t be too displeased with how things turned out, especially with all the off-the-pitch distractions.

Winning the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup, clinching third place in the league and finishing runners-up in the two domestic cup competitions, can’t be classed as a poor campaign by any stretch of the imagination.

The main disappointment will be how the Blues’ league form trailed off so badly but there are still some players whose performances stood out. We have decided, therefore, to list the top performers based on their end-of-season WhoScored Premier League rating.

Press the next page as we look at Chelsea’s five best performing players this campaign.

5) Mateo Kovacic – 7.04

The Croatian international has been Chelsea’s best player in the middle of the park this season, having outshined the likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante.

Thomas Tuchel’s side always seemed to perform better when Kovacic was fit and available. However, he did miss 13 league matches due to fitness issues and that is something that the 28-year-old will be keen to improve upon next campaign.

4) Thiago Silva – 7.06

The Brazilian veteran continues to defy the years with his superb performances and there are no doubts that he can play on for another year in the Premier League.

With so many of his teammates at the back expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Silva will be the player that Tuchel will want to build his new defence around.

3) Marcos Alonso – 7.09

The wingback started the season in good form, before he lost his place to Ben Chilwell. A serious knee injury for the England international, though, allowed Alonso to regain his place in the starting eleven.

While the Spaniard has still been suspect defensively, he does contribute a good deal in the final third of the pitch, having scored four goals and provided four assists in the league this season.

2) Mason Mount – 7.19

The midfielder registered double figures for goals and assists in the league, and you cannot really ask for a lot more from him. Yet, inexplicably, the 23-year-old continues to get criticised by some.

Mount’s penalty miss in the FA Cup final may have put a dampener on his achievements this campaign, but he will continue to be a key player for the Blues going forward.

1) Reece James – 7.24

The 22-year-old is arguably the most complete fullback in world football and, if he can stay free of injury next season, he could really do something special.

Even after missing 12 league matches due to hamstring problems this campaign, James still scored five times as well as contributing nine assists. He is simply an outstanding player.
