Chelsea’s Swoop For 22 Cap Italian International Now In Jeopardy Following Latest Development

Chelsea’s attempts to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could end in failure following a claim from the Rossoneri’s sporting director.

Reports have suggested that the Blues have been trying to secure the 21-year-old on a Bosman free transfer next summer, when his current contract expires at the San Siro.

However, Frederic Massara says he is now increasingly confident that both Donnarumma and teammate Hakan Calhanoglu will sign new deals to prevent them from leaving Milan at the end of the season:

“We’re confident to reach an agreement with Donnarumma and Calhanoglu in order to extend their contracts in the next weeks.”

Chelsea’s interest in Donnarumma was a surprise, considering the Blues signed a new number one, Edouard Mendy, only a matter of months ago. It may be the case that manager Frank Lampard sees the opportunity to sign the 22-cap Italian international as too good to turn down.

As things stand, it does appear that the keeper won’t be moving to Stamford Bridge in July but things can change quickly in football.
