Chelsea’s Oriol Romeu Linked With Return To Spain

Oriol Romeu joined Chelsea back in 2011 from Barcelona at a time when he was considered as one of the brightest young prospects. His move to London has not worked out well for him as his time at Stamford Bridge has been unfortunately hampered by injuries which have ultimately led to a spell of poor form and omission from the team.

He spent a majority of his time playing for the reserve squad last season, which understandably upset him. Now that he is 100% fit, he is looking to gain regular first team football for next season, but the return of Jose Mourinho has put fresh doubt about Romeu’s role and position in the squad for next season, as Mourinho’s plans for him are still unknown.

Therefore, it was being suggested that a temporary move to another club for a season could help Romeu gain the first-team action he wants along with helping him become a better player once he returns to Chelsea at the end of next season. The likes of Valencia were being linked with a loan move for him, as they are thought to be interested in bringing him back to Spain.

Metro reports that Romeu’s close friend Sergio Canales who is himself at Valencia, revealed that Romeu is interested in a possible move. “I have spoken with Oriol and I say sincerely that he is very taken by the option of Valencia. The squad is perfect for a player to progress (in),” said the former Real Madrid man.”

This deal might not happen, as he might just end up having an important role to play for Chelsea themselves next season, given the uncertain future of John Obi Mikel who is being targeted by Galatasaray. If he does end up leaving and Chelsea fail in their chase of Nemanja Matic, Oriol might just have a huge role to play for Chelsea in midfield.

Do you see him staying put at Chelsea, or will he spend the season away on loan at Valencia?
