Chelsea’s Great Scheme To Promote Asian Football

Few people know that Chelsea have been offering chances for youngsters across Asia to become “A list” players who make it to the big leagues. In its 8th edition, the Asian Star tournament is scheduled for the end of May and is intended to welcome over 300 youngsters ready to take their chance and prove their talent. Not only that this tournament will get Chelsea an opportunity to find talented children but will also give other scouts the chance to observe Asia’s best. Opened for all, this tournament will take place in Cobham where Chelsea’s training grounds are located.

The trial will be conducted by former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo who despite spending just three seasons at Stamford Bridge, took on a coach position for the Blues’ academy. It is expected that his presence will increase the number of participants and will raise awareness.

According to SkySports, Tore Andre Flo is very excited to act as a club ambassador and have a chance to work with kids from all over Asia. “It’s great for the club to be involved in a project like this. Chelsea are involved in a lot of great things for children, including developing grassroots football and most of all allowing children to enjoy themselves which they do on such a day like this. It must be a great day for the children, coming here to Cobham and using these facilities at Chelsea Football Club. I can imagine that this day is like a great adventure for them. Chelsea are doing a great job with grassroots football especially with events like Asian Star, which is why I enjoy being involved with this club.”

It`s a pity events like these do not get more exposure. The Asian Star tour is probably one of the best things to take from this season as Chelsea haven’t managed to secure any trophies but the Blues are certainly doing their bit to promote football in Asia.
