Chelsea’s Deadline Dealings

Chelsea have completed the signing of Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji. The 27-year-old played an impressive part in Nantes’ campaign last term, thus attracting attention from the likes of Celtic, Southampton, Newcastle, Leicester and Sunderland this summer.

The Blues have wrapped up the Senegalese defender who stands at a huge 6ft 4in. Chelsea’s defence has been slightly shaky so far this season, and Mourinho believes the centre back will help provide back-up especially as the Blues seem resigned to the fact they won’t be signing Everton defender John Stones this summer.

Djilobodji has joined for a fee of £2.7million on a 4 year deal.

Chelsea have also confirmed that winger Victor Moses has joined West Ham on a loan deal, as well as the Nigerian international signing a new 4 year deal at Stamford Bridge – presumably to ensure the Blues get a decent fee for the player when it comes to selling him.

Reading have signed Chelsea youngster Lucas Piazon on a season-long loan as well. The 21-year-old has a bright future ahead of him and joined the Blues from Sao Paulo in January 2012. He will now play in a fourth loan stint, following spells at Malaga, Vitesse Arnhem and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Reading boss Steve Clarke has admitted he is delighted with the deal.

“Lucas is a very talented attacking player who can create chances and score goals.” said Clarke.

“I was impressed by both his maturity and desire to prove himself in English football after some loan moves to European leagues.”

“I’m sure Lucas will bring something extra to our squad this season.”
