Chelsea’s Cristian Cuevas Sent To Vitesse On Loan

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have sent their new youth signing Cristian Cuevas on loan to Vitesse Arnhem to gain first team experience in order to be able to compete for a place in the senior squad next season.

Jose Mourinho has been very busy in the transfer market, looking for young players who can progress at the club and provide a strong youth base for the future. The former Real Madrid boss has a preference of his own, and felt that the current crop of youngsters needs competition within themselves. The signing of Marco van Ginkel from Chelsea was secured with a similar intention of being able to integrate younger players without adding too much pressure on the starting eleven. Chelsea will be participating in as many as four major competitions, including the Barclays Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. These two competitions have always been the priority for Russian owner Roman Abramovich, who will be delighted to have won consecutive European crowns in the past two seasons.

The club recently signed off their pre-season campaign in the United States with a defeat to the hands of Mourinho’s former club Real Madrid, who convincingly beat the Blues with the help of an impressive brace from Cristiano Ronaldo. With international friendlies to be held next week, this would seem to be the last week of collective training before the start of the new Premier League campaign. Much is expected from Mourinho this season, as he begins his second stint in management at Stamford Bridge.

Cuevas has been a target for many European giants, but it was Chelsea with their ruthless approach to sign young talent who were successful in bringing the youngster to England from Rancagua in his native Chile. The 18-year old began his youth career at the club in 2007, and spent five years developing his game before being offered a professional contract. Even though his traditional position is that of a defender, Cuevas can operate on the left wing with a natural left foot.

A statement released by Vitesse confirmed: “Cuevas is known as a great talent.”

“The left-footed player can operate anywhere along the left side.”
