Chelsea Will Open Contract Talks With 19-Year-Old Amid Reports Of United Interest

Chelsea are likely to offer fullback Reece James a new contract in order to ward off interest from rival clubs, according to reports in the English media.

Manchester United are said to be monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation so the Blues are preparing to open talks over a new deal in the coming weeks.

James signed a four-year contract extension before his loan move to Wigan last summer, but his performances last season have prompted the club to propose improved terms.

Reserve fullback Davide Zappacosta is expected to be sold, and with no means to replace the Italian due to the club’s transfer ban, Chelsea are keen to tie down the youngster to a fresh deal.

James made his debut for Chelsea’s first team in a friendly against New England Revolution last week, and it is believed that the Blues will look to give him more first-team opportunities at the start of next season.
