Chelsea Weigh Up Swoop For £45m Rated Ligue One Goal Poacher

Chelsea have made Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani their number one striker target for the January transfer window, according to reports in France.

The Uruguayan international is 31 years of age and has a contract that expires in 2020. It means PSG could be open to offloading the forward if they receive the right offer.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is said to be unhappy with his forward options with neither Alvaro Morata nor Olivier Giroud having convinced him that they are the long-term solution up front.

A move for Cavani could, therefore, be sanctioned, but it is believed that PSG may ask for up to €50m (£45m) despite his age. The Ligue One club are looking to recoup as much of the €64m they paid Napoli for the player five years ago.

Other clubs who are interested in the Uruguayan, such as his former side Napoli and Atletico Madrid, may only be able to afford half what Chelsea could pay. Whether the Blues would match PSG’s sizeable asking price, it remains to be seen.
