Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are expected to battle it out for Palmeiras midfielder Gabriel Menino in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan newspaper reports the London club “wants to go seriously” in to sign the Brazilian and he may be available for a relatively modest price.
It is believed that Menino could be offloaded for between €15m (£13m) and €20m (£17m) at the end of the season, making him an attractive target for clubs. As well as Chelsea and Atletico, Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked recently.
To say that the 20-year-old is a utility player is an understatement. For Palmeiras, he has been regularly used in no less than four different positions in recent seasons.
Menino has been employed at right-back, as a holding midfield player, as an attacking midfielder as well as on the wing, so the Blues would certainly be getting their money’s worth if they do choose to sign him.
The fact that he is available for well below his €60m (£52m) release clause is undoubtedly another plus point.
