Chelsea have stepped up their interest in signing a world class winger this summer, and they have identified their No.1 target.

Antoine Griezmann is reportedly Roman Abramovich’s favoured choice for transfer to the Blues, with Mourinho wanting a new winger. Chelsea were believed to be chasing Griezmann’s signature earlier on this summer, but were put off by Atletico’s price-tag of £55m.

However, Chelsea are set to move for the France international once more and are said to be willing to offer up to £40m for his services. It’s unlikely that Atletico Madrid will accept anything lower than the £55m release clause the player has, but if Juan Cuadrado is used in the equation – who’s to say what could happen.

Griezmann is undoubtedly one of the most impressive attacking players currently playing in Europe. The 24-year-old Frenchman has blown up in recent years with his impressive performances, but now it’s time for the winger to take the next step and play for one of the big-dogs in football.

In just 37 appearances for Atletico, Greizmann has managed to score 22 goals – an amazing feat for a winger. He joined the Spanish side from Real Sociedad last summer for a fee believed to be close to £22 million (€30 million). Atletico would make a tidy profit from the sale if they accepted Chelsea’s approach, but it is unlikely that they would allow the player to leave without a fight!
