Chelsea vs Roma: Match Preview and Predictions

Chelsea host Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday hoping to keep up their 100% record in the group stages so far.

The Blues have made a brilliant start, beating FC Qarabag 6-0 and overcoming favourites Atletico Madrid away from home 2-1 to sit top of their group. Roma are also unbeaten though, and will give Conte’s men a tough test which they will need to be prepared for if they are to bounce back from their hugely disappointing loss to Crystal Palace over the weekend.

The Blues will be without midfielders N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater, as well as Victor Moses who limped off with a hamstring problem during the 2-1 loss to Palace. Alvaro Morata is still recovering from a hamstring injury, but returned to training on Sunday so could make a surprise appearance.

Roma face injury troubles of their own, with Kostas Manolas, Patrik Schick, Gregoire Defrel, Emerson Palmieri Kevin Strootman and Stephan El Shaarawy all doubts for the Serie A giants.

The last time Chelsea and Roma met was in the group stage of the Champions League nine years ago. The Blues won the home game 1-0, before losing the reverse fixture 3-1.
