Chelsea Vs PSG – Match Preview And Predicted Line-Ups

Chelsea need to look back at what they have done since the 3-1 win against Sunderland back in December up until now and apply it to the PSG game. Hiddink has gone 16 games without losing in the League and FA Cup. The first negative result in a dozen games came against the French side who won the first leg by a one goal advantage. Even though most saw Blanc’s side as the favourites, Chelsea proved a tough nut to crack. Losing 2-1 to PSG is not a bad result considering the fact that the Frenchmen hadn’t lost a game until that moment in time. The Blues actually only need a 1-0 win to get them through which is definitely something that can be done.

With Costa returning and with the only key absence other than Zouma being that of John Terry, Chelsea need to remind themselves that a really solid defensive performance will go a long way to beating PSG. No one is saying they need to “park the bus” but a solid defense and good counterattack plan should do the trick. Honestly, no one will care if Chelsea end the match with 1 shot and 1 goal as long as they don’t concede. Given the season they have had, going through to the next stage of the Champions League would be something.

The problem is that Hiddink needs to figure out what he wants out of this season. Should he focus on the FA Cup, finishing in the top 4 of the League or should he focus on actually winning the Champions League? There are some tough calls to make because even if the team is going well, it may not be going well enough to achieve maximum results in all competitions. What does that mean? Win the Champions League, the FA Cup and finish in the top 4. Looking at these goals, the FA Cup sounds like the most realistic target. Then there is the Champions League and the Premier League top 4.

As the Evening Standard reported, Hiddink is confident things will go well. Here is what he had to say: “We will need to be angry from the start on Wednesday, but in a controlled way. The players must be fully concentrated because we are playing a class team and they will punish you if you start sloppy. In those big games, you cannot guarantee that players won’t make errors, but regarding the concentration level and the attention level, that’s automatic – I don’t have any fear of that.”
