Chelsea Vs Newcastle Team News, Betting Odds And Where To Watch

Chelsea will feel some slight deja vu this week as they play against Newcastle United again but in the Carabao Cup this time.

The Blues beat Newcastle 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League after goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson were too much for the Magpies who were able to net just once courtesy of Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak.

It put Chelsea in fifth in the league on 17 points after nine matches leaving them just one point away from the Champions League places.

However, instead of hosting Newcastle, Enzo Maresca’s side will make the trip up North to St James’ Park to face Eddie Howe’s side who are winless in three games.

Chelsea have won two of their last three games with the other being a 2-1 defeat away at Liverpool just after the international break.

The Blues have a fit squad with just Omari Kellyman being unavailable for the match on Wednesday night at St James’ Park.

Whereas Newcastle could be without star winger Anthony Gordon who felt a groin issue in training on Saturday which kept him out of the game against Chelsea on Sunday.

He is currently being assessed for the Carabao Cup match. Click here to see our predicted XI for Chelsea on Wednesday night at St James’ Park.

Chelsea expected to lose in hostile Newcastle atmosphere

Despite the Blues’ recent form being better than Newcastle and the fact that Enzo Maresca’s side beat the Magpies on Sunday, the bookmakers have Newcastle as narrow favourites on Wednesday night.

According to Oddschecker, Chelsea are backed to win at 33/20 giving them a 37.7% chance of progressing to the quarter final. Newcastle are narrow favourites at 8/5 which gives them a 38.5% chance of victory. Meanwhile a draw is backed at 11/4 (26.7%).

We predict the game to go to extra time and penalties in what could be one of the games of the Carabao Cup this year backing Chelsea to win on spot-kicks.
