Chelsea V Newcastle: Preview And Betting Odds

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is sweating over the fitness of four players after they picked up knocks playing for their countries during the international break.

N’Golo Kante suffered an adductor muscle injury in the warm-up before France’s game against Iceland, but he did make the substitute’s bench for the 1-1 draw versus Turkey on Monday night.

Ross Barkley was subbed after scoring two goals in England’s 6-0 win over Bulgaria and was seen with an icepack on his calf, while Mateo Kovacic limped off during Croatia’s 1-1 draw with Wales with a knee problem.

Andreas Christensen also picked up a groin injury against Switzerland last week, so Lampard has a fair few injury concerns heading into the game against Newcastle this weekend.

Reece James (ankle), Emerson Palmieri (thigh), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) are also all still on the sidelines.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have fewer problems with Florian Lejeune (knee) and Matt Ritchie (ankle) both unlikely to feature due to injury. Isaac Hayden is suspended after picking up a red card against Leicester.

At the bookmakers, Chelsea are favourites to get the three points, with Sky Bet having them at 3/10 odds-on for the win. A draw is 23/5 with 888 Sport while a Newcastle victory is 10/1 at Ladbrokes.
