Chelsea V Crystal Palace: Team News And Betting Odds

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard would have been disappointed that his side did not progress against Spurs in the Carabao Cup midweek. After dominating the first 45 minutes, the Blues failed to build on their lead in the second half and their loss on penalties could have been avoided.

Their next opponents are Crystal Palace who are coming into the game after a 2-1 home defeat to Everton. However, after winning their last away match at Old Trafford, this could be a stern test for Lampard’s men.

Chelsea should have Timo Werner available despite the German picking up cramp in the closing stages of the cup defeat to Spurs on Wednesday. However, there is less certainty over Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.

The pair are back on the training pitch but Lampard has stated it may take a week or two for them to return to first-team action, so we may see at least one of them on the bench this weekend. Billy Gilmour is not expected to return until November after a knee operation.

For Palace, manager Roy Hodgson is expected to welcome back Jeffrey Schlupp from a muscular injury, but Scott Dann is a major doubt with a similar problem.

Five other players are unavailable for the game at Stamford Bridge with James Tomkins (thigh), Patrick van Aanholt (shoulder), Gary Cahill (thigh), Nathan Ferguson (knee) and Connor Wickham all missing.

At the bookmakers, Chelsea are the favourites with Unibet pricing them at 21/50 for the win. A draw is 4/1 with Bet365 while a Crystal Palace victory is 7/1 at William Hill.

Predicted Score – 2-1 to Chelsea
