Chelsea V Burnley – Match Preview And Predicted XI

Chelsea will have been boosted by the win against BATE Borisov on Thursday night. It was a comfortable victory while it allowed manager Maurizio Sarri to rest a number of key players.

Burnley, meanwhile, will be coming into the match off the back of a 5-0 thrashing away at Manchester City. Sean Dyche’s side may feel aggrieved at the nature of City’s second goal but there can be no doubt that they were outplayed on the day.

Eden Hazard remains a doubt for the game at Turfmoor. The Blues talisman has been suffering from a back injury and was not included in the matchday squad against BATE. Pedro is the likeliest replacement for the Belgian if he is not fit to play on Sunday.

Ethan Ampadu also remains sidelined with a knee injury he sustained whilst playing for Wales at the beginning of the month.

For Burnley, Nick Pope is still out of action as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder. Stephen Ward will also miss out. The Irish international has had a minor operation on a knee injury and it has been confirmed he’ll be out for a couple of weeks.

Ben Gibson is close to a return after missing the last two months after surgery on a hernia. He featured for the Under 23s in a 6-0 win over Sheffield United this week but this weekend may come too soon for a first-team appearance.

Robbie Brady is back fit and could play on Sunday. The Irishman could have featured against Manchester City last weekend but the Clarets are being careful with his return from a knee injury after a number of previous setbacks.
