Chelsea V Brighton: Match Preview And Betting Odds

After last night’s 7-1 hammering of Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, Chelsea will go into Saturday’s game against Brighton on a high.

The Seagulls, in contrast, have been struggling to score goals in recent matches, with their 3-1 loss to Aston Villa midweek coming off the back of a 0-0 draw versus Newcastle United on Saturday.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has six players out of action at the moment. Emerson will be out until October with a thigh injury, while Andreas Christensen is a doubt after picking up a knock against Liverpool.

Olivier Giroud has missed the last two games due to illness and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the matchday squad this weekend.

Antonio Rudiger is still struggling with a groin problem while Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles) and Marc van Ginkel (knee) are long-term absentees.

Brighton, meanwhile, could be without nine first-team players. Leandro Trossard (groin), Ezequiel Schelotto (knee), Jose Izquierdo (knee),  Leon Balogun (muscular) and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are all out of contention.

Bernardo (back), Shane Duffy (calf), Solly March (thigh) and Neal Maupay (knee) are also doubts for manager Graham Potter.

The bookmakers have Chelsea as favourites with Ladbrokes pricing them at 4/9 to win. A draw is currently 19/5 with Unibet while a victory for Brighton is 15/2 at Betfred.
