Chelsea, United And Liverpool All Named As 60M Battle For Nicolo Barella Heats Up

Chelsea and Manchester United are likely to join Liverpool in the race for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to La Repubblica (via TMW).

The Italian newspaper reports that Jurgen Klopp’s side are expected to make a move for the Italian international and Inter could be prepared to sell for around €70m (£60m) due to their financial situation.

That could also lead to teams like Chelsea getting involved if the Nerazzurri do auction off Barella. He was extremely impressive for Italy at the European Championships as they went on to beat England in the final.

The 24-year-old has been on the London club’s radar in the past, and manager Thomas Tuchel is believed to be keen on strengthening his options in the middle of the park, with Billy Gilmour having been sent out on loan to Norwich.

Most reports, though, have suggested the Blues are looking at bringing in a holding midfielder, such as Declan Rice or Eduardo Camavinga. Barella is a more attack-minded player so it remains to be seen if they do firm up their interest in the Italian.
