BBC Journalist Confirms Chelsea Are After 2 Keepers As Petrovic Is Offered To Other Clubs

Chelsea will look to recruit Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili or Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen if they sell Djordje Petrovic, according to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The Serbian international ended last season as the Blues’ No.1, having taken the gloves off Robert Sanchez, but it is believed that he doesn’t have a future under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Petrovic has reportedly already been offered to Serie A side Genoa and, while there is s still a possibility that he will remain at Stamford Bridge, it appears his career at Stamford Bridge could be over just a year after arriving from New England Revolution.

Maresca is keen to have a first choice who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and, unfortunately for Petrovic, it’s already clear that he isn’t up to the standard required.

Mamardashvili impressed at the Euros

For most observers, Georgia’s shot-stopper was the best-performing keeper at the European Championships. Many were left perplexed when France’s Mike Maignan was named in the Team of the Tournament by UEFA.

However, Chelsea’s interest in Mamardashvili goes back a lot further than that. They have been scouting the 23-year-old for well over a year.

Chelsea would be taking more of a risk on Jorgensen

The Danish international did catch the eye with his displays for Villarreal last season but it must be pointed out that it was his first year as a regular starter at the top level.

Jorgensen’s stats don’t make for great reading. He conceded 64 goals and kept only 6 clean sheets in 37 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign.

At 22 years of age, he remains a rather raw talent, in a similar vein to Petrovic, so he would undoubtedly be a riskier signing than Mamardashvili. We shall have to wait and see who ends up as the top target.
