Chelsea are “closely monitoring” RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons, according to Fichajes.net.
The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the Netherlands international “fits perfectly” in terms of what the Blues are looking for profile-wise.
Simons is 20 years of age but he already has plenty of experience at senior level, having played 70 games since making his first appearance for Paris Saint-Germain.
Interestingly enough, it was Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino who gave the Dutchman his first taste of senior football, handing him his professional debut against Caen in the French Cup back in February 2021.
It is, therefore, logical to assume that the Chelsea manager would be interested in bringing him to the Premier League.
Simons is only on loan at Leipzig
Paris Saint-Germain re-signed the 20-year-old from PSV Eindhoven in the summer before loaning him out to Leipzig. He has subsequently scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in his first 7 league appearances for the German club.
Fichajes report that, when Simons returns to France at the end of the season, PSG will “consider substantial offers” for the player, which will give encouragement to Chelsea and other interested teams.
Will Chelsea have competition for Simons’ signature?
It is believed that Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder so Chelsea are expected to have a fight on their hands when it comes to securing his services.
The amount of competition will probably depend on whether Simons builds on his strong start to the campaign. When playing for PSV last year, he ended up scoring 22 goals and contributing 12 assists. If he manages to rack up similar figures in the Bundesliga this season, clubs will be desperate to sign him.
