Chelsea are “making a move” to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in the Portuguese media.
Arsenal are widely thought to be the favourites to snap up the Swedish international. However, ABOLA claim that the Blues are positioning themselves to hijack their London rival’s bid for the player.
There has been a mixed reaction to the story among supporters on X, with some believing Gyokeres would be a great addition to the squad, while others are sceptical about their chances of beating the Gunners to the forward‘s signature:
The best choice striker actually!
For me, the choice should be in this order:1. Viktor Gyokeres
2. Alexander Isak
3. Victor Osimhen
4. Liam Delap— Temidayo Ogedengbe (@dayoogedengbe) April 18, 2025

Chelsea have already set a precedent
Manchester United were regarded as the frontrunners to buy Geovany Queda before the Blues swooped in to secure the teenager’s services.
ABOLA suggest a similar thing could happen with Gyokeres. Chelsea clearly have a good relationship with Sporting, based on how quickly the Queda deal came together, so you can’t rule out history repeating itself.
How much would Gyokeres cost?
The 26-year-old does have a €100m (£86m) release clause in his contract, but it is believed that Sporting are willing to let him go for €70m (£60m).
That seems like a very reasonable fee, considering Gyokeres’s outstanding goal record this season. He has found the back of the net 44 times in 45 appearances, having also contributed 11 assists.
