Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has said that the Blues should sign Nigerian international Victor Osimhen.
The striker is currently on loan at Galatasaray after failing to secure a permanent transfer away from Napoli in the summer.
Several teams including Chelsea expressed interest in Osimhen, but none of them were able to match Napoli’s demands.
Malouda believes that Chelsea should go out and sign him in January, he told Coin Poker: “I think the addition of Osimhen would send out a big message to the other top teams in the Premier League.
“If Chelsea signed him, then I think we could say for certain that his quality would put Chelsea right into the title race.
“If Chelsea can stay within touching distance of the top of the table, then adding Osimhen to the squad in January would give the fans and the club a really exciting second half to the season.”
Chelsea tried to sign Osimhen in the summer
The Blues weren’t hiding their interest in the Nigerian international over summer as they were in talks to sign him.
However, no deal was done as there was also interest from French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Any of the interested clubs could sign Osimhen in January despite the fact that he is out on loan due to a clause in his contract.
Victor Osimhen’s release clause lowered for possible January transfer
One of the reasons why the striker didn’t move over the summer was down to the fact that his release clause was set at £90 million.
However, according to Football Italia, it has been lowered to £75 million by Napoli with a view to allowing the striker to leave in the upcoming January transfer window.
So far this season, Osimhen has two goals and two assists in three league appearances for Turkish side Gakatasaray.
