Ex-Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo says he has concerns about Victor Osimhen’s “attitude and personality” amid reports linking the Nigerian with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The striker has scored 31 goals in all competitions this season, but speaking to goldenpanda.com, Flo said he’d prefer his former team to keep faith with Nicolas Jackson:
“It’s so difficult to be sure on anything, because we know Osimhen has a phenomenal scoring record, but he hasn’t played in the Premier League. If I was Chelsea or Enzo Maresca, I would stick with Jackson at the moment.”
“Osimhen, I know he’s a super striker, but there’s been a lot of question as to why he’s not at his original club. What happened there? Why did he leave Napoli? I don’t really know. I really want the players Chelsea already have to really, really work for the team, be good team players. That’s what Chelsea need. Someone who’s really working for the team. Rightly or wrongly, there are some question marks about Osimhen’s attitude and personality. That would be a worry for me.”
Why are there concerns about Osimhen?
The Nigerian international’s relationship with Napoli effectively broke down after his transfer to Chelsea collapsed last summer. He eventually ended up on loan at Galatasaray.
Osimhen has been in great form in Turkey but, despite closing in on the final year of his contract with Napoli, clubs are still not banging down the door to secure his services.
Many believe that the forward’s salary demands are pricing him out of certain moves. Chelsea, in particular, have a strict wage structure that means they won’t offer individuals sizeable wages. Osimhen would likely need to accept a pay cut in order to make the switch to London.
Chelsea are set to pursue different strikers
The Blues may end up signing an alternative to Osimhen, with Ipswich’s Liam Delap, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres all said to be in the mix.
You can’t rule out a deal being done with Napoli for Osimhen but, as things stand, Enzo Maresca‘s side are set to look elsewhere to strengthen their options up front.
