Ollie Watkins – 2/5

The Athletic mentioned the England international’s name in their Transfer Dealsheet in passing, without going into any detail about the Blues’ interest in the player.

Chelsea were after Watkins’ teammate, Jhon Duran, earlier in the transfer window, but the decision was made to pull out of the deal, most likely because they didn’t want to spend in excess of £40m on a relatively unproven forward.

In contrast, Watkins has shown he is up to Premier League standard, having scored 27 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions for Villa last campaign.

Of course, the main downside is his age; he will turn 29 at the end of the year. Considering the Blues are usually reluctant to sign anyone over 25, you can’t see them splashing the cash on someone like Watkins, despite his undoubted talent.
