Journalist Reveals Surprise New Twist In Chelsea’s Attempts To Sign £34M Rated Mount Replacement

Celta Vigo attacking midfielder Gabri Veiga is “not a priority signing” for Chelsea, according to Football.London reporter Bobby Vincent.

It was reported yesterday that the Blues were contemplating a bid for the 21-year-old, who has a €40m (£34m) release clause, but it is now been claimed that a move for the player is unlikely:

The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City have also recently been credited with an interest in Veiga, but it was believed that Chelsea would step up plans to secure the Spaniard’s signature as a potential replacement for Mason Mount.

He has had a great season for Celta, racking up 11 league goals, with two of those coming on the final day of the season in a 2-1 win over Barcelona, helping to preserve his team’s top-flight status.

What’s the latest situation with Mount?

Manchester United remain favourites to snap up the 24-year-old but Chelsea are said to be sticking to their £70m valuation of the player, despite the fact that his contract is set to expire next year.

Other teams, including Liverpool and Arsenal, are known to be keen admirers of Mount so the Blues will be hoping for a bidding war to get the fee they are demanding.

What other midfielders are Chelsea targeting?

Following the failure to land Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte, the club are reportedly switching their focus towards Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. Both players are, though, likely to cost quite a lot of money.

Caicedo’s valuation is expected to exceed £80m, with the Seagulls having rejected a £70m bid from Arsenal for the Ecuadorian during the January transfer window. Lavia’s price tag, meanwhile, is thought to be £50m.
