“It Doesn’t Make Sense” – Louis Saha Criticises Chelsea As They Put £30M Rated Defender Up For Sale

Ex-Manchester United and Everton striker Louis Saha has questioned Chelsea’s decision to sell Trevoh Chalobah.

The 25-year-old was left out of the Blues’ pre-season tour of the United States, with the London club trying to force him to leave Stamford Bridge. Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha says it is hard to understand the logic behind Chelsea’s transfer business:

“Deciding on getting rid of players at Chelsea is so difficult because they have so many players, so many young players, and many players who are trying to find their feet and play consistently. For me, I don’t understand what is going on behind the scenes at Chelsea because their strategy is difficult to follow, so from the outside it doesn’t make much sense, and the stability looks fragile. Trevor Chalobah is a good player, with great versatility and he deserves to play regularly and stability, but that’s not the case at Chelsea currently.”

It is believed that Chelsea have slapped a £30m asking price on Chalobah, with the club keen to get him off the books before the transfer window shuts on August 30th.

Why are Chelsea selling the defender?

The official line is that the Blues have too many right-sided centre-backs. Head coach Enzo Maresca also has Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana in his squad.

However, the real reason is probably due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. Selling an academy product like Chalobah goes down as pure profit on the balance sheet.

Who is interested in signing Chalobah?

The centre-half does have plenty of suitors. The likes of Newcastle, Fulham, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have all been credited with an interest in the player.

Chalobah is said to be weighing up his options and he won’t be rushed into deciding which team he wants to join.
